Bucknell was declared the Pennsylvania winner of the per capita classic category in the 2016 RecycleMania competition. National and regional results from the entire competition were announced earlier this month.
RecyleMania is friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities on campus. Over an eight-week period each spring, college and universities from across the U.S. and Canada report the amount of recycling and trash collected each week and are then ranked in various categories.
Bucknell ranked 23rd in the nation and first in the state in pounds of recycled materials per capita at 26.468. It also ranked fifth in the state and 140th in the nation in the grand challenge, which measures the recycled rate, at 27.48 percent.
