Professor Darakhshan Mir, computer science, has been named a 2017–18 fellow by Data & Society, a New York City-based research institute focused on the social and cultural issues arising from data-centric technological development. Mir’s research examines questions about data privacy in both practical and social contexts. She encourages her students to think critically about the “nerd privileges” their technical training provides them, and society’s unbridled optimism about the changes technological development brings.
