Bucknell Students Honored at Botany Conference

Mae Lacey ’18 and Ian Gilman ’15 were honored at the international Botany 2015 conference in Edmonton, Alberta.

Lacey was selected by the Botanical Society of America as having the best presentation by an undergraduate in the field of ecology.

Gilman was one of two winners of the new Undergraduate Research Prize from the American Society of Plant Taxonomists. The award recognizes outstanding undergraduate performance in work related to evolution of plants.

Other Bucknell student presentations included announcement of a new Australian species by Emma Frawley ’17, a summary of plant genetics research completed by Dan Hayes ’17 during his summer abroad in Germany, and a description of a project on parasitic plants done by Alice Butler ’16 while participating in a program at the University of Idaho funded by the National Science Foundation.

Three 2015 graduates and six Bucknell University students attended the conference. Led by David Burpee Professor Chris Martine, biology, and Burpee Postdoctoral Fellow Ingrid Jordon-Thaden, the group joined 1,800 botanical scientists for five days of presentations by researchers from around the world.
