Luke McGuire ’08, a Bucknell University alumnus, recently received a Bisgrove Scholar Award from Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz). With support from Arizona philanthropist Jerry Bisgrove, SFAz created these awards, which are now in their sixth year, to attract, support and retain exceptional and innovative new researcher talent in Arizona. McGuire is an assistant professor in the geosciences department at the University of Arizona and his current research focuses on geologic surface processes that shape landscapes, with applications to natural hazards such as wildfires, and how these events impact landscape evolution.
McGuire holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Bucknell, and a doctorate in applied mathematics from Arizona.
