Professor Scott Meinke, political science, recently co-authored an article that appeared in the Washington Post about Democratic party superdelegates. In the piece, he and his co-author use data from the 2008 democratic primary, which they gathered for a 2013 study, and theorize that superdelegates that pledge their support for a candidate during the nomination process are unlikely to tip the contest in favor of one candidate or the other, but rather have strong incentives to follow public input.
