Alice Butler ’16 and Meghan Garanich ’16, two recent Bucknell University graduates, were honored at the international Botany 2016 conference held July 30 to Aug. 3 in Savannah, Ga.
The Botanical Society of America (BSA) selected Garanich as having the best undergraduate presentation in the field of ecology. Butler was one of two recipients of the Undergraduate Research Prize from the American Society of Plant Taxonomists, which recognizes outstanding undergraduate performance in work related to evolution of plants. This marks the second straight year that Bucknell students or recent graduates have garnered those awards at this conference.
Current students Nathan Luftman ’17, Emma Frawley ’17, Nic Diaz ’17 and Mae Lacey ’18 also attended the conference and presented their work. Burpee Postdoctoral Fellow Jason Cantley was also the recipient of an award, as he was presented with the Margaret Menzel Award for best paper in genetics.
